Prevention

The Region 10 Community Wellness Coalition was established in 2010 by a group of concerned community members to address underage drinking and its associated risk factors within the towns of Harwinton and Burlington. The coalition continues to be an asset to the community with strong support from the Region 10 School District administration and the First Selectmen of both towns.

Preventing the Use of Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs

Youth Substance Use Prevention is an evolving field of research and early intervention strategies that target risk factors and community conditions which we know lay the groundwork for substance use disorders later in life. By addressing risk factors and promoting protective factors for youth in our community, we begin to build a foundation for healthy decision-making, strong ties to community and school, and self-awareness. These skills and resources range from education about substance use and mental health topics, to youth-led community projects. The Region 10 Community Wellness Coalition utilizes the Strategic Prevention Framework (SPF), a model developed by SAMHSA, for assessing community needs, collecting data, implementing programming and policies, and evaluation results.
